Strategy 02 · DeFi & Yield
Idle Capital, Instantly Available
Every dollar earning, every dollar reachable.
In traditional markets, cash waiting for a trade sits in a money market fund and takes a day to arrive when it is called. On-chain, the same dollars can rest in a stablecoin lending market or a stable-to-stable pool, earn continuously, and be withdrawn and redeployed inside the very transaction that opens the new position. Wesvel runs its uncommitted capital this way: nothing sits idle, and nothing is locked where the desk cannot reach it when the next opportunity appears.
The resting layer
Capital not committed to a strategy position is held in stablecoin-denominated positions chosen for withdrawal speed first and yield second: lending markets with same-block withdrawal and deep supply, and stable-to-stable pools whose liquidity is many multiples of the position. A venue qualifies for the resting layer only if the whole position can leave at any moment without moving the rate or the pool’s balance.
Liquidity tiers
Every position in the book carries a liquidity tier: available in the same block; available within hours, such as a fixed-term position near maturity or a large pool exit that has to be worked; or locked, such as fixed-term lending and restaking with withdrawal delays. The resting layer is entirely the first tier. A floor is set for how much of the whole book must sit in that tier at all times, so that a funding requirement, whether margin on the perpetuals book or settlement of a spot block, is never met by selling a strategy position.
Instant funding
Because the resting layer is programmable, withdrawal and deployment happen in one atomic step. A single transaction can withdraw stablecoins from a lending market, swap into the asset a pool requires and deposit into that pool, or it can fail entirely and leave the capital exactly where it was. This is what lets the desk act on a rate spike, a new pool or a funding dislocation without a treasury step in between, and without the capital ever being un-invested on the way.
Funding the other books
The same layer funds the rest of the firm’s activity. Margin for the perpetuals book, settlement for a spot block and collateral for an event-contract position are drawn from the resting layer and returned to it when the position closes. Moving between an on-chain position and an exchange account is the slowest link in that chain, so balances are pre-positioned where funding is likely to be needed rather than moved after the fact.
The cost of staying liquid
Same-block liquidity costs yield. The deepest markets pay the least, and a position that can exit instantly has usually given up a locked-in rate somewhere else. The desk treats that gap as the price of optionality and measures it: how much the resting layer forgoes against the locked alternative, and how often the optionality was actually used. A resting layer that is never drawn on is too large, and one that is drawn on constantly is too small.
Practice
How Wesvel approaches it
- 01Resting venues are selected on exit depth and credit of the stablecoin, with yield as the tiebreaker.
- 02A minimum share of the book is held in same-block liquidity at all times, sized from the firm’s peak funding requirements.
- 03Deployment from the resting layer is atomic: the capital is either fully in the new position or fully where it started.
- 04The yield forgone by staying liquid is reported alongside the yield earned, so the size of the layer is a measured decision.

- Stablecoin YieldThe sources of yield on dollar-denominated on-chain positions, from lending to Treasury-backed instruments to basis-backed synthetic dollars.
- Liquidity Pool FarmingProviding inventory to automated market makers across full-range, concentrated, incentivized and correlated pools, and the accounting that makes it a strategy.
- RestakingCommitting staked assets to secure additional services for incremental reward, and what changed when slashing went live.
- Protocol DiligenceThe review every protocol passes before it receives capital, and the limits that follow it.
- Finding the OpportunityHow the desk screens lending markets, pools and incentive programs for yield that is mispriced rather than merely high, and what it leaves alone.
- Stablecoin-Denominated PoolsWhy stable-to-stable pools are the base layer of the DeFi book, how their pricing works, and what a de-peg looks like on-chain before it is one.
- Pool Selection and Range ManagementThe screen a pool passes before capital is deployed, how concentrated ranges are set from realized volatility, and the written rules that govern rebalancing and exit.
- Rotation and Rate MonitoringHow the book moves capital between lending markets, pools and chains as rates change, and the thresholds that stop it from churning.
- On-Chain ExecutionHow positions are entered, rebalanced and exited on-chain: atomic transactions, private routing, slippage limits and the controls around signing.
